HERE’S THE LOW-DOWN on the Golf Course... as of Monday, October 3rd, 2011: THE COURSE IS FULLY OPERATIONAL, WITH ALL HOLES PLAYING AT REGULATION LENGTH, and just #2, #3, and #9 are playing as "CARTS ON PATH ONLY". NEW GREENS #11 & 12: These greens are OPEN, beautiful, and have been worth the wait. Over 100 trees were removed from each green location, then each bulldozed and re-built into fantastic new green complexes. The worst greens on the golf course are now the newest and most modern. Re-CONSTRUCTION OF FAIRWAYS #2 & #3: Our NEW #2 is IN FULL USE, all carts on path only. The new fairway is firm and fast, ending about 15 yards short of the creek (long-hitters beware!). We've eliminated the "blindness" and elevated the lower fairway 30 inches above its former wetter self. The giant willows between #2 and #3 are now in a wetland, taking most of the water that used to saturate the fairway. Our new #3 is also NOW OPEN AS A FULL-LENGHT PAR FOUR (also Cart-Path Only). Washouts slowed the progress, so we've sodded some areas and added more diversion screens and silt fence. The weather was not been our friend on #3 but it's now OPEN, and playing. Also this fall we killed and re-grassed the NINTH FAIRWAY with our new COMPACT BLUEGRASSES. The grow-in was as speedy as the grow-in on #3 was slow! It's already in full use, just no carts for the rest of this season. The design of #2 is “long and sweeping” with the low areas elevated about 30” above the old design (and well-above the creek!). Number 3’s design is drastically different, with calculated drive landing areas, risk-reward for big hitters, and wonderful “canyon-like” landing zones between new barrier berms edging the upper fairway. There’s a lot to like on both! The ditch from #4 is dug. The under-road culvert cannot be installed until the ditch is completely grassed, according to our MDNRE Permit. Other good news is that work by our County Drain Commission is proceeding! The incredible infusion of sediment from upstream should be relieved (removed) THIS YEAR, the result being a return to our formerly dryer, more stable fairway conditions of a few years ago. It's been a long process convincing our neighbors that this is a community issue, with Clearbrook the "benefactor" of all those loose soils resting here as their "gift". A lot of dredging work has to be done, along with a revamp of the creek weirs we use to fill our ponds. Our flood tolerance will increase dramatically and hopefully eliminate the stretches of days we're closed following major rains! Our soils here are sandy, but the water had no relief ... until this important work is done! Frequent meetings with the engineers, the Drain Commission, and the MDNR indicate very good progress toward getting done this year during winter.
Don't forget, a round at Clearbrook isn't complete without a stop in The Grill Room, serving all seven nights in golf season, and Tues-Sat the rest of the year. We’re giving The Dining Room a rest this season, allowing some time to let the economy decide if it wants fine dining. The space, now called our East Room, has been converted into part of The Grill Room concept. Once again, the editors of GOLF DIGEST Places To Play Guide have included Clearbrook giving it FOUR & 1/2 STARS for 2010.... and gave it "superior" Pace of Play and Value ratings. |
